Assiniboine Cougars are proud to announce our 2019-20 Women's Soccer Award winners. The Women's Soccer team, coached by Mark Murray, Gerry Rocan, and Kate Broadhead completed their sixth season in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) League this year.

Women's Soccer Most Valuable Player is awarded to goalie Telecia Dowsett.

The Women's Soccer Most Valuable Player is awarded to goalie Telecia Dowsett. Minnedosa local, Telecia is one of the best goaltenders in the MCAC league, balancing her time in the net with studying Assiniboine's Business Administration program.

"Telecia was instrumental in supporting our inexperienced team; she kept the team in nearly every game during the season. She stopped numerous breakaway opposition attempts and always stepped up without needing to be asked," said Coach Murray.

Women's Soccer Coaches' Choice award goes to midfield athlete Kendra Mansoff

The Women's Soccer Coaches' Choice award goes to midfield athlete Kendra Mansoff from Brandon. Kendra is a hard-working player who always strives to make the team better both on and off the field. Transfering her dedication to the classroom, Kendra is currently undertaking Assiniboine's Education Assistant program.

"Kendra is the heart of the team. She is fiercely determined on the soccer pitch. A versatile player, she can and did play every position on the field (excluding net) throughout the season. I could also rely on her to lead by example and share her experience with new players," said Coach Murray.

Women's Soccer Most Improved Drew Curtis

The Women's Soccer Most Improved is awarded to defender Drew Curtis from Brandon. Drew, who is enrolled in the Culinary Arts program had an immediate impact on the team’s defensive ability. Not one to shirk in the face of adversity, Drew never gave up and kept a positive attitude at every training session and game.

"Drew comes from a diverse sports background, and truly defines a multi-sport athlete. She is as comfortable on the badminton court, to running track, to defending on the soccer pitch. Her skill on the pitch has steadily increased over the year, earning her the title of most improved," said Coach Murray.

Assiniboine's annual Student Achievement Celebration recognizes the impressive achievements of students across both the academic and athletic calendars. This year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Student Achievement Celebration event will not take place in the traditional format.
