Cougars women’s volleyball stacks the roster before season opens

The Assiniboine Cougars women’s volleyball team has added Gabrielle Caillier and Kate Fergusson to the line-up for this upcoming season.

The Assiniboine Cougars women’s volleyball team has added Gabrielle Caillier and Kate Fergusson to the line-up for this upcoming season.

Gabrielle Caillier is a 5’5” setter joining the Cougars from St.Leon, Man. She previously led as captain on the Varsity Predators at Prairie Mountain High School where she was named Player of the Game at the provincial tournament. Caillier will be studying in the college’s Business Administration diploma program.

Caillier credits her coaches throughout her career in volleyball for encouraging her to become a setter. After transferring to Prairie Mountain High, she says her coach was “an extreme help to my improvement in the sport, his belief in me to be the best player I could be resulted in my love for the sport.”

Jeff Maxwell, head coach of women’s volleyball says “Gabby played for a strong high school program out of Prairie Mountain and we have been watching them play over the last two years. We are excited to have a second quality setter join our program.”

The second recruit, Kate Fergusson, a 6’0” product of Alexander, Man. is excited to be back on the court after taking a year off and most certainly looking forward to playing with some familiar faces. “The Cougars have always had a really strong program and I’m excited to see what I can bring to keep it going,” said Fergusson.

Fergusson played club volleyball with the Catz Volleyball Club that received a bronze medal at Nationals and high school volleyball at Vincent Massey High School, where she a MHSAA Graduating All-Star. Maxwell expressed that Fergusson was one of our “top prospects a year ago and she decided to take a year off and we are excited that she has decided to join our team now.”

Fergusson will be studying in the college’s Agribusiness diploma program.
