Cougars WVB add Libero and Left Side

Cougar women's volleyball add libero, Brittany Bachmier from St. Francois Xavier, MB and Vincent Massey graduate, Jessi Coulter to 2017-18 line up.

BRANDON, Man. (June 13, 2017) — The Assiniboine Cougars women’s volleyball team has strengthened their recruiting class for the 2017-18 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) season with the addition of Brittany Bachmier and Jessi Coulter.

Brittany Bachmier comes to us from St. Francois Xavier, Manitoba. Standing five foot five she plays back row in the libero position. She attended and played for St. Paul’s Collegiate and for the Prairie Fire club team. Bachmier was a key contributor, helping her school team become finalists of the Manitoba High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Provincial A Girls championship. She was named St. Paul’s Collegiate Junior Varsity Female Athlete of the year in 2014-15 and Female Athlete of the Year in 2016-17.

“I am excited about the opportunity to further my education while continuing to play volleyball at the post-secondary level,” says Bachmier.

“I first saw Brittany play in the 2015 provincials,” says head coach Jeff Maxwell. “She was one of the top libero’s and I feel she is going to be a dominate libero in the MCAC.”

Along with volleyball, Bachmier plays badminton, soccer and competes in track and field. She will be taking the college’s Comprehensive Health Care Aide program starting in the fall.

Jessi Coulter is a Brandon native having attending Vincent Massey High School. She is five foot eleven, left side and played for the Cats Volleyball Club. Coulter was selected a member of the U15 Manitoba Provincial Volleyball Team and was awarded an all-star invitation in her senior year of high school after winning the city championship. Unfortunately, Coulter tore ligaments in her ankle during the first game of high school provincials and was forced to take some time off to recover. She has taken a time to rehab the ankle and is ready to get back on the court.

“The way I went out my last game in high school was heartbreaking. I’m ecstatic about starting up my volleyball career and ready to work hard and prove myself,” says Coulter. “I agree with Maxwell’s coaching philosophy, so the Cougars seem like the perfect fit for me.”

“Two years ago Jessi graduated Vincent Massey as one of the best players in Brandon,” says head coach Jeff Maxwell. “Her experiences working and traveling along with her skills are going to be a great asset to our team.”

Coulter played basketball, hockey, soccer and rugby along with volleyball. She coached the U14 girls Cats club team this past season and volunteers with various organizations on the side. She will be taking the colleges Culinary Arts Program in the fall.

“The culinary program has nothing but superb things spoken about it,” continues Coulter. ”I’m excited to be taught by such successful and knowledgeable chefs.”
