Returning to school after years away is a big step—one that takes courage, determination, and support. At Assiniboine’s Centre for Adult Learning (CAL), we’ve designed a new kind of high school experience, one that fits within a college setting and is built specifically for mature learners. Here, you’ll find not only the courses you need to complete your Grade 12 diploma or gain additional credits or upgrade existing courses, but also an environment that understands the challenges and opportunities that come with returning to school as an adult.

Learning Designed for Your Life
CAL recognizes that adult learners juggle many responsibilities, from work to family to personal commitments. That’s why we’ve built flexibility into our programs. You can choose from three learning options: in-person classes on campus, hub mode (online learning from home or another campus), or independent study, where you work at your own pace and can register for classes anytime. In-person and online day and evening classes are offered each September and January, making it easier to fit education into your life.

More Than a Classroom
Because CAL is part of Assiniboine College, you’ll experience the benefits of learning in a supportive college environment when you choose to study in-person. Our Brandon and Dauphin campuses provide modern classrooms, computer labs, wireless internet, and student mingling spaces that make returning to school feel welcoming, not intimidating. This is a place where adult learners can connect, study and grow together.

Support That Understands You
We know returning to school can feel overwhelming, which is why CAL provides wraparound supports to help you succeed. You’ll have access to a student success advisor who will guide you in planning your education and career path, as well as supports like tutors, a learning strategist, elders, and an Indigenous services officer. Our team is here to help you every step of the way, because we understand what it’s like to return after time away.

A Fresh Start, a Brighter Future
Completing your Grade 12 diploma at CAL isn’t just about meeting requirements—it’s about creating new opportunities for your future, proving to yourself that you can achieve your goals, and showing others in your life what’s possible. At CAL, you’ll find more than a program; you’ll find a community that believes in you and understands your journey.
