Willem Van Schie will don the Cougars jersey for the men’s volleyball team in the fall.

Van Schie is a six-foot-one left side from Glenboro, Manitoba. Last season he followed the Cougars on social media, watched the games on livestream and this season he adds his name to the roster. Van Schie loves to compete and played multiple sports in high school. His list of athletic accolades from Glenboro High School include Male Athlete of the Year in 2018, 2020 and 2022. He holds multiple MVP titles from his junior and varsity basketball and volleyball teams. He was selected Manitoba High School Athletic Associations 2022 “A” Male Basketball Player of the Year after his team won the “A” championship and he was named MVP.

“I am undersized but have a good jump, have good timing with setters and defensively blocking,” said Van Schie. “Knowing that there is so much more to the sport you love leaves one seeking for more and there is never a dull moment on the court. I am really looking forward to learning more and all the guys already make me feel like a part of the team, like a family.”

“Over summer training, Willem has shown that he has the skills and determination to play at the next level,” said Cougars coach Joel Small. “He has great athleticism and overall skill set. He works extremely hard and will be an asset to our team in the fall.”

Van Schie graduated in June from Glenboro School and has given back to his community as both an elementary school basketball and volleyball coach. He will be taking the colleges Civil Technician program in the fall.
