Gerardo Alas Donado will stand between the posts for the Cougars men’s soccer team this upcoming fall.

Donado was born in El Salvador and moved to Canada in 2012 when he was just eight years old. He recently graduated from Vincent Massey High School where he played soccer for the Vikings. The 5’8 keeper co-captained the season and helped the team bring home the city championship, to top it off; he was named the recipient of the Vikings Coaches Award. Back in 2016, he had been selected as a member of Team Westman that placed second in the Manitoba Games. Fast forward a year and he saw himself competing alongside fellow Cougars recruits Chambers and Strasser with the Westman Football Club that won the Golden Boy Championship in 2017.

“I’m very talkative inside and outside the field which helps me be a leader in my role,” said Donado. “I’m looking forward to meeting new people and improving my abilities.”

Donado is a member of the church band at Misión Cristiana Emanuel. His musical talent ranges from playing the guitar to the bass, drums and even the piano in his spare time.

“Gerardo is a confident goalkeeper who excels with the ball at his feet,” said Cougar head coach Chris McLachlan. “He is very vocal and keeps in constant communication with his teammates. His speed an athleticism are exceptional and we are very excited to add him to our group.”

Donado has an older brother, Leo that is a Cougars soccer alumni, having played in 2016 and 2017 while taking Business Administration at the college. Although they have soccer in common, Donado will be taking a very different academic stream entering college’s Automotive Technician program in the fall.

“I’ve always been a hands on learner and interested in the automotive industry, whether it’s repairing, driving or admiring them,” said Donado.
