Parkland Campus announces construction skills training for learners of all experience levels

Assiniboine College is excited to share information about new Trades training being offered this October at the Parkland campus in Dauphin.

Whether you are looking at doing minor home renovations, in search of a new hobby, or expanding your current home improvement understanding, students will now have the opportunity to develop practical building skills through Assiniboine’s flexible, modular training offerings.

Designed to meet learners where they are, the program is divided into five standalone, hands-on courses, each running approximately three weeks. Participants can register for a single area of interest or combine multiple courses to broaden their skillset, creating a learning experience tailored to their individual learning goals.

“These courses offer a flexible way for people to gain practical, hands-on experience in specific areas of construction,” said Jim DeGraeve, Acting Dean, Trades, Assiniboine College. “We are excited to offer these programs as an entry point, or as a way for potential students to gain relevant industry knowledge that they can look to build on in their careers or at home.”

With the courses being offered individually or in any combination, it allows prospective learners the freedom to customize training based on the following areas of study: drywall installation and finishing, painting selection and application, interior finishing, exterior finishing, and concrete forming.

“We are excited to be welcoming these mini trades to our Parkland campus,” said Parkland Campus Director Carol Stewart. “As we look to build practical, job-ready skills in a short amount of time, these programs are designed for flexible, affordable, hands-on training options that allow learners to explore a range of in-demand trades within the construction industry.”

With a start date of October 5, registration is now open for all of the three-week blocks of full-time study.
