Program spotlight: MBA

Take the next step in your educational journey, and become part of a global network of business professionals that are moving, shaking and leading companies into the future. A Master of Business Administration (MBA) is for those committed to continuous learning and improving what they bring to the table in a business setting.

Assiniboine has partnered with Cape Breton University to deliver its Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Community Economic Development in a part-time, on-campus, weekend-delivery format, beginning September 2023.

This unique program concentrates on the economic development of communities—the symbiosis of business and community—and how we can use the economy to develop the places that we want to live in and that people want to stay in. Class materials, assignments and research all focus on creating tangible projects that affect your community. Unique to this MBA, you will look at how geography drives, and factors into, the local economy.

Develop the soft and hard skills needed in the leaders of today’s business world. Build stronger communication, critical thinking, analysis, strategy, and leadership skills while applying them to courses that focus on marketing, accounting and organizational behaviour. Hone your verbal and written skills so you can convey concepts to people at all levels within an organization to help facilitate teamwork and collaboration towards a common goal.

Classes are scheduled approximately 16 weekends a year; flexibility is key to the delivery method so you’re able to balance work, family and studies. All courses are delivered face-to-face at Assiniboine’s Victoria Avenue East campus in Brandon by acclaimed faculty from across Canada, allowing you to advance your career while continuing to work. You can earn your MBA in 24 to 26 months.

The MBA in Community Economic Development resonates with people working in the public sector, community organizations, social enterprises and entrepreneurial businesses; it attracts learners who want to make a difference in their organizations and communities.

This MBA is also accessible for non-degree applicants who have significant managerial experience, as well as for degree applicants with non-business degree backgrounds. It will help you establish a mindset and learn within a framework that is not taught at the undergraduate level—elevate and expand your thinking and bring forward smart solutions to today’s business complex business problems.
