Student Spotlight: Kristen Paul

I’m proud to think that 2020 is going to be the year I finally graduate. I’ve been so close for so long, but am proud that I finally took the steps towards making it happen.

I love the support system at Assiniboine. My student success advisor, Shaya Smith at Assiniboine’s Adult Collegiate, has been amazing. Shaya made me feel welcomed, she was attentive and informational, and she helped me feel confident that my education plan was the right choice for me. I was a little indecisive as to what courses I should take based on my future plans; however, she was able to put together an educational plan that has set me up for success.

In fact, all of my instructors have been wonderful. They are with me every step of the way, with whatever questions I may have or help I may need. Surprisingly, with COVID-19 and all of the remote learning, I have still felt like a part of the learning community.

I tell my friends about the programs Assiniboine offers, and that it really is for everyone. Education is available, and I encourage them to think about what they want in life and that they should reach out and talk to a student advisor. Most courses are flexible, so they can work around their school schedule and achieve their desired goals.

I’m excited about my future, and I want to continue studying in the health field. Once I graduate, so many doors will open for me; it’s a very exciting time for me and my daughters.
