Vincent Massey Duo Join Cougars Women’s Volleyball

BRANDON, Man. (April 10th, 2023) — Lexi Brown and Ava Plamondon have committed to the Cougars women’s volleyball team for the 2023-24 season.

Brown and Plamondon are both Brandon based student athletes, set to graduate from Vincent Massey High School where they shared the court as Vikings. The two join fellow Vikings recruit, Ryan DeGroot on the Cougars roster. The Vikings won the city title and went on to the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association (MHSAA) AAA provincials ranked first. They qualified for the final four and walked away with a bronze medal.

Brown is a 5’8” libero, a position that specializes in back court on serve receive and defence. She is currently playing for the Cats U17 club team.

“Lexi will be a great asset to our ball control emphasis,” said Cougars coach Kevin Neufeld. “With valuable experience as a full-time libero she brings a solid serve receive and defensive skill set.”

“Backrow playing is one of my strengths as I feel I can read the play pretty well,” said Brown. “The volleyball program at ACC is a good fit for me and my skill set and I think this program will help me grow as an individual and a teammate as well.”

Plamondon is a 5’11” setter currently competing with the Cougars U18 club team. She was selected a Manitoba High School Athletic Association graduating All-Star last season.

“Ava is a welcome addition to our team with an upbeat game and team first attitude,” said Cougars coach Kevin Neufeld. “She will provide depth at the setter position and her growth continues to climb having been a full time setter for only one year now.”

Plamondon won a provincial and national title with the U14 Cats Club team in 2019.

“Playing on coach Neufeld’s club team, I really enjoy the way he runs his teams and our practices. He was the main reason I chose to come to the college,” said Plamondon. “I may not be the flashiest player but I pride myself on being consistent and steady. I always maintain a positive attitude despite what may be going on in the game and I always work hard to be a leader on and off the court.”

Both student athletes are academically strong and have received academic awards through Vincent Massey High School. Brown will be taking the college’s Social Service Worker program and Plamondon will take Business Administration in the fall.
