Women's soccer recruits striker from Brazil

Juliana Vannucci Tibirica will be joining the Assiniboine Cougars women’s soccer roster for the upcoming 2019 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) soccer season.

Juliana Vannucci Tibirica is a product of Campinas, Sao Paulo in Brazil. The 5’3” striker caught the coaches’ attention while playing soccer for the Minnedosa Collegiate Chancellors through the International Rotary Club Program. Juliana says that she is looking forward to “learning about my future career and being able to focus on what I really love.”

Vannucci will be studying in the college’s Interactive Media Arts program starting this September.

“When I’m playing, I can take a break from everything else and renew my energy while doing I love the most – playing soccer and having fun,” said Vannucci. “I’m looking forward to improving my skills and helping the team and myself grow to achieve our goals.”

Coaches Mark Murray and Gerry Rocan have watched Juliana move from playing striker position in high school to the Westman Soccer League playing for the Minnedosa Lakers.

“Juliana has proven to be a scoring threat in soccer, having scored five goals early for the Lakers this season,” said coach Rocan. He also expressed that Juliana can “play both soccer and futsal with skill and ability.”

Rocan says that “her tactical knowledge of the game, along with her athletic ability will be a welcomed addition to the Assiniboine Cougars Soccer team.”

The coaching staff looks forward to seeing her strengths in the outdoor season transition into Futsal for the Cougars as she grew up with the sport in her home country of Brazil.
