Training Specialist

Job Summary: Incumbent will work with Healing Homes and Clinical Program Directors to continue defining the philosophy of care in the Homes; oversee and support the application of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) into Knowles Centre’s Healing Homes and work with supervisors and front-line staff to implement the philosophy and methods.
Key Responsibilities
• Become trained as a TCI trainer (November 6-10, 2023, in the GTA)
• Conduct regular internal TCI (required) and Self-Reg training (preferred), including re-certification of Knowles Centre staff
• Conduct the intake meetings for the Healing Homes to assess fit and develop reason for referral and Individual Crisis Support plan documents.
• Support supervisors and staff after incidents to ensure procedures were followed if they involved physical intervention and provide immediate feedback and training.
• Work with the Healing Homes staff, supervisors and director to further implement TCI concepts in the homes
• Create and offer a one-day crisis prevention and de-escalation course for the SAIL program.
• Market TCI and Self-Reg to external agencies and partners and provide them with information sessions.
• Develop and implement outcome measures for quality assurance purposes and work with Administration and Quality
• Improvement Officer to integrate TCI and Self-Reg reporting into the client database.
• Evaluate outcome measures to identify program and operational improvement areas and report outcomes to funders.
• Consult with the Clinical Director to collaborate with the province to establish provincial standards for TCI to facilitate the implementation of TCI with other organizations
• Expand out-of-organization training opportunities, including but not limited to TCI and Self-Reg
• Maintain all requirements to ensure the status of TCI instructor and complete all requirements to become a professional trainer to allow for external training opportunities.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
• Experience working in congregate care settings
• Five years of experience working with youth, families, and direct service workers
• A diploma or degree in a social service or counselling field is an asset.
• Experience working with children and adolescents with behavioural and emotional struggles
• An understanding of colonization, intergenerational trauma, Indigenous practices and traditions and direct experience working with Indigenous clients.
• Certification in TCI and Self-Reg or a willingness to be certified.
