Breal Bangle envisions her own career success through the success of those she works with.

Although she has only just begun her career, Breal Bangle knows that when she looks back at the highlights, the best will be watching her students walk across the stage at their grade 12 graduations, knowing she helped get them to that point.

After taking some time off after completing high school, Breal took the Education Assistant program at Assiniboine and received her diploma this past June. She knew she was headed down the right path after working in a daycare for five years, “I enjoyed the education component more than the play-based activity,” she says, “I went to work in a school to make sure it was what I really wanted to do.”

Currently employed at Gillam School with the Frontier School Division as an Education Assistant since October 2017, Breal assists in teaching class lessons to small groups, oversees multiple students, implements behavior plans and finds strategies to help her students.

“This field is difficult on some days but it’s also extremely rewarding, and I wouldn’t change it,” says Breal, “currently I am running the school age summer program through a daycare.”

Originally, Breal was attracted to the Assiniboine program because she knew others who had attended Assiniboine already and who had really enjoyed it.

Now as an alumnae herself, she feels she learned the most about how to work and interact with people she might not otherwise get along with. “The multiple practicums included in the program gave me the skills to work with all kinds of students that I had never even dreamed about working with prior to taking the program,” says Breal.

Her advice for people thinking about taking the Education Assistant program is to make sure not to fall behind on projects and homework – it can be hard to catch up, “the program is intense but it’s also great and by the end you and your classmates will feel like a family.”
