Assiniboine connects with industry, alumni at Manitoba Ag Days

Assiniboine College’s Ag Partnership Breakfast and Aggie Alumni Mixer, hosted at Manitoba Ag Days, bring together agricultural industry partners, employers and alumni, and provide opportunities for students.

Bright and early Wednesday morning (January 21) the annual Ag Partnership Breakfast kicked off day two of Ag Days. The annual event supports financial awards for students in the Russ Edwards School of Agriculture & Environment and related trades programs at the college.

“With our focus on growth in agricultural programming, research and extension, Manitoba Ag Days is an important venue to connect with so many partners across the industry,” said Derrick Turner, VP of Advancement at Assiniboine. “We are continually encouraged by the strong turnout of our friends and colleagues who in support of our student awards and advancements in agriculture at the college.”

This year’s breakfast showcased agricultural podcast “Turning Dirt”, hosted by Jon Mazer. The show focuses on practical farming, technology, sustainability, and entrepreneurial spirit in agriculture. Through engaging real-world stories, “Turning Dirt” dives into the modern challenges facing today’s ag sector. Wednesday’s featured guest was newly appointed President and CEO of Mazergoup, Ben Voss. With a background in engineering, corporate governance, innovation, and global business development, Voss looks forward to carrying on the legacy that Bob Mazer built in the family-owned company.

Later that afternoon, the college’s Alumni Association welcomed alumni to the annual Aggie Alumni Mixer to reconnect with classmates and instructors and hear about what’s new in agriculture at the college.

“We love having the opportunity to connect with our alumni at events like the Aggie Mixer,” said Connor Ketchen, Director of Foundation & Alumni Relations at Assiniboine. “Our alumni community grows each year, and we’re proud to celebrate the impact they’re making across industries throughout the region.”
