An administrative assistant plays a central role in today’s offices. This competency-based online program allows you to work and learn at your own pace, while receiving practical and applied training in word processing, accounting, spreadsheets, database and Internet searches, office procedures, communications and business calculations.

This hands-on learning program provides you with the skills and experience to tackle the job.


  • A complete Manitoba Grade 12 or equivalent
  • English 40G/40S or equivalent
  • Consumer/Essential Mathematics 40S or equivalent


English is the language of instruction at Assiniboine. All applicants educated outside of Canada or in a country not on the test exempt list are expected to meet the English language proficiency requirement. See for more information.

Careers & Connections


Graduates may find work as data entry clerks, general office clerks, or administrative assistants, among many other career opportunities. Jobs may include preparing correspondence, reports, statements, and other material, operating office equipment, filing, answering phones, and other general clerical duties.


Students graduating from the Assistant Administrative program ,with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, may apply to Assiniboine’s Legal Administration, Medical Administration or Office Management diploma programs, and receive credit for year one. Students must apply for and commence studies with Assiniboine within five years of completing the Administrative Assistant Program.

For this program, you are expected to have access to a computer at home. It should have a webcam, microphone and internet access to enable remote learning for the theory portions of your programs.

Courses & Costs

To graduate with an Administrative Assistant certificate, students must successfully complete 63 credits.

Tuition, fees and Students’ Association fees total approximately $550/month. Textbooks are not included in this tuition estimate. All fees are estimated and are subject to change without notice.

Courses can be selected on a monthly basis. Access to courses start by the first of the month.  Selections must be communicated to the Program Coordinator, Ben Welsh, by the 20th of the month preceding the desired start date.

Students are given up to four (4) months to complete each course. If a course is completed earlier, the student may continue to another course or other courses that follow their study plan.
