Agronomist/Plant Ecologist – Native Plant Solutions

Overview

The Opportunity
Native Plant Solutions (NPS), a consulting branch of Ducks Unlimited Canada, is looking for a confident, energetic, and dedicated Agronomist/Plant Ecologist to join our team. This position will support DUC’s revenue generating branch, NPS (www.nativeplantsolutions.ca).
NPS provides environmental services and on-the-ground expertise in upland and wetland ecosystems to industry, land developers and government agencies. Working with a multi-faceted team of professionals, you will lead the development and implementation of native grass upland reclamation, remediation, and applied services for projects to our clients.
You need to be an enthusiastic team player – a self-starter who can work with anyone and capable of seeing the bigger picture and thinking out of the box. This position requires you to be an effective communicator and able to build positive working relationships. It includes overseeing, mentoring, and working alongside seasonal staff.
This position requires expertise in plant ecology following agronomic practices for upland reclamation. Candidates must be comfortable working in the field and coping with variable weather conditions as a substantial portion of your time will be spent working outdoors during the growing season.
You possess strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills. You have demonstrated expertise in project planning, cost estimating, contract management, and contractor supervision. You are self-motivated, enjoy a complex, changing environment and can manage numerous projects, and contractors, on tight deadlines.
You possess strong technical writing and presentation skills and are an organized entrepreneur with the ability to work independently or as part of a project team. You are considered a true leader with visionary qualities who prides themselves on meeting deadlines and delivering quality results in a complex and changing environment.
Your three to five years of on the ground experience in native plant establishment and advanced knowledge of upland plant ecology makes you the ideal candidate for this position.

Salary
• Salary to be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Requirements
• An undergraduate or graduate degree in Agriculture, Agroecology, Plant Science, Soil Science, Plant Ecology, or a related discipline (a diploma combined with CCA accreditation and five years of progressive forage establishment experience will also be considered);
• Strong planning, reporting and project management skills;
• Excellent organization, interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written;
• Ability to foster key business relationships;
• Previous experience working with budgets;
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
• Experience in operating farm equipment (tractors, ATV’s, riding mowers) would be an asset;
• Must possess or obtain a pesticide applicators license;
• A valid class 5 driver’s license.
• The successful candidate is required to submit proof of COVID-19 Vaccination
