Agronomy Extension Specialist – Cereal Crops

Overview

Manitoba Crop Alliance is seeking a full-time Agronomy Extension Specialist – Cereal Crops for a one-year term to join our dynamic team to serve our farmer members who grow wheat and barley in the province of Manitoba.

The individual who joins the MCA team needs to have a passion for agriculture and support the farmers who grow high quality wheat and barley for domestic and international markets. We want a self-starter, highly motivated person with a positive and team-oriented attitude.

The Agronomy Extension Specialist – Cereal Crops is responsible for the development, coordination, and extension of wheat (spring and winter) and barley agronomic information and research results to Manitoba Crop Alliance members under the supervision of the chief executive officer.

Qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Extend agronomic information and MCA funded research results into impactful, producer-friendly language for inclusion into various MCA publications, including but not limited to factsheets, the annual scientific publication, and social media platforms.
- Support creation and execution of agronomic extension campaigns with our partner’s agronomy staff to develop coordinated messaging where appropriate, including but not limited to Alberta Wheat, SaskBarley, SaskWheat, Alberta Barley, Cereals Canada, and fellow Manitoba crop commodity associations.
- Assist with the review of research project proposals.
- Support extension of MCA’s on farm trial (OFT) research program.
- Provide support to provincial and national pest surveillance surveys.
- Represent, lead, and assist in executing MCA events, including but not limited to Ag Days, CropConnect, Crops-A-Palooza, Producer Malt Academy, and other extension events.

Qualifications:
- Completed post-secondary education in agriculture or related discipline, MSc. a strong asset.
- Strong understanding and familiarity with Canadian agriculture and agronomy practices.
- Interest and enthusiasm to network within the agricultural industry.
- Experience working for a not for profit and Board of Directors considered an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
