Who are we
Knowles Centre is a community-based, non-profit social service agency for children, adolescents and young adults facing difficult times in their lives. It began as a home for boys in 1907 and today provides a range of therapeutic and skills-based programs to young people from Manitoba and other communities throughout Canada.
Knowles Centre is made up of a team of 130 full-time, part-time and casual employees. Each day we strive to help young people and their families address past struggles, develop healthier relationships and ways of life, and reach their full potential in the future.
We do this by providing the following programs:

• Healing Homes
• Treatment Foster Care
• SAIL Program
• Day Treatment
• Sexual Abuse Treatment
• Moving Forward Counselling

In addition, we offer or arrange support services that complement our core programs, including:

• Biimautaziiwin Aboriginal Cultural Program
• Recreation Program
• Camp & Outdoor Education Program
• Access to psychiatric consultation
• Program partnerships with River East Transcona School Division

Community Connector – Valley Gardens Community School – (RETSD) (full-time, up to a five year term)
Knowles Centre is a community-based, non-profit social service agency for children, adolescents and young adults facing difficult times in their lives. It began as a home for boys in 1907 and today provides a range of therapeutic and skills-based programs to young people from Manitoba and other communities throughout Canada.

Duties:
• Responsible for designing, implementing, participating, and supervising the Valley Gardens Community Connector Programs
• Plan and implement an after-school program for students and families
• Professional experience working with children, youth and families presenting with a broad range of needs within a culturally diverse community
• Supervise vulnerable youth, both individually and in groups
• Experience working with Indigenous, as well as Newcomer students and families
• Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and cross-cultural perspectives
• Understanding of trauma and trauma-based supports and interventions
• Willingness and ability to provide learning opportunities for parents/caregivers
• Partnerships
o Create partnerships with local agencies to provide recreation/programming initiatives to students and family members
o Organize and facilitate bi-weekly stakeholder meetings with school team and community partners
o Maintain communication with agencies
o Grant writing
• Responsible for developing and maintaining a Community Connector Program budget
• Lead collection of data to celebrate successes and measure impact of programming
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
• Ability to be flexible with working hours to accommodate design and implementation of evening programs for students and families

Qualifications

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree (education, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, recreational studies) or equivalent experience will also be considered
• Strong interest in working with vulnerable youth
• Excellent interpersonal, written, communication skills
• Effective organizational and computer skills
• Successful applicant will be subject to Child Abuse Registry with Prior Check and Criminal Reference checks (dated within 3 months)
• Valid Manitoba Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle

As a condition of employment, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.
