International Peace Garden Landscape Team Leader

Overview

The International Peace Garden is looking for an enthusiastic and driven self-starter to lead the daily mobilization of seasonal horticulture staff in the Display Gardens and to further provide strong support to the Display Gardens Horticulturist in planning, design and plant production during the off-season. The Landscape Team Leader works closely with the Display Gardens Horticulturist to ensure the effective execution of the annual Display Gardens maintenance plan and development strategy, and reports to the Director of Horticulture.

The Display Gardens are part of the Formal Gardens at the IPG and offer an extensive collection of rotating annual flower displays and diversified perennial, shrub and tree plantings tailored to the local micro-climate and soil conditions found in the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota/Manitoba. This unique opportunity is perfect for individuals that love interacting with people as much as they love working with plants!

Qualifications

-Significant experience (3 years min. preferred) in supervising/directing crews of 6-10 people in a gardening/landscaping or related setting

-Significant experience (3 years min. preferred) working in the horticulture/landscaping industry with a strong background knowledge of best practices and tools/equipment used in in those industries

-Specific knowledge of and experience in growing plants in a Zone 2-3 USDA climate zone

-Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to compile various documents (spreadsheets etc.) as needed

-Bachelors or other degree/certification in horticulture/landscaping or related field is preferred but not required.

Other requirements:

- Must have excellent leadership and verbal/written communication skills

- Be able to stay motivated and focused on appropriate tasks, and direct others to do the same

- Be able to lift 50 pounds.

- Be willing and able to work long hours outside, including some weekends.

- Must possess a valid driver’s license and current pesticide applicator license (or get on within the first year of employment)
