Landscape Labourer – Native Plant Solutions

Position Details: Full Time, Fixed Term (approx. May – Oct, with possibility of extension)
Salary: Starting salary at $17.25/hr, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will commensurate with each individual's education and/or experience as it relates to the position.
Location: Winnipeg, MB

What You Will Do
We are seeking dedicated landscape labourers to join our Native Plant Solutions team. The successful applicant will work with other staff to perform activities related to the establishment, management, and maintenance of conservation and native plant habitat programs.

Day-to-day operation and maintenance of NPS’s wetland and upland projects, which may include seeding, seed processing, chemical and mechanical weed control, installation of erosion control products, wetland hand-planting, goose fence installation/removal, and other tasks as required.

This physically demanding role requires outdoor work in all weather conditions and includes heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs).
Some travel to various communities or remote areas may be required.

Equipment operation may include operation of tractors, seeders, ATV’s, trailers, backpack sprayers, and/or string trimmers. Our ideal candidate will be able to take direction and execute tasks in a safe and efficient manner without direct supervision.

Qualifications

Requirements
• Physical capability to undertake rigorous landscape labour in support of our conservation programs.
• Relevant work experience in one or more of the following specialties: plant and/or wetland ecology, agriculture/farming, greenspace management, plant science, environmental science, or landscaping, is preferred.
• Experience in one or more of the following: plant identification, weed management, herbicide handling and application, soil erosion management, is an asset.
• Full-time post-secondary student pursuing a career in agriculture, biology, plant ecology, environmental science, sustainability, or similar field, is an asset.
• Ability to work well both in a team setting and independently, with strong self-direction when conducting fieldwork.
• Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed, which may include evenings and weekends at times.
