Applied Research Projects
Some of our recent projects and initiatives
Field to Fork
Field to Fork is a collection of Assiniboine College initiatives dedicated to strengthening the local food chain through education, research and outreach. We work passionately to increase food security, and that helps build stronger communities.
Greenhouse in a Box
This innovative, mini growing unit is the resulting outcome from over 8 years of comparative study between different sustainable passive solar greenhouses by our Assiniboine College applied research team. This technology will be a concrete step forward in addressing the lack of available fresh, healthy produce in isolated region as it is a transportable, off-grid, mini growing unit for year-round fruit and vegetable crop production.
Net-Positive Network
This project will build an innovative network of regional communities of practice to improve soil health. The farmer-led network will support the knowledge mobilization, transfer and exchange associated with implementing large-scale soil improvement practices supporting nutrient management and soil biodiversity.
FADST - Fungicide Application Decision Support Tool
Designed and made operational by the Russ Edwards School of Agriculture and Environment, this is a real-time disease assessment tool based on a disease risk model and weather data for each production area in Manitoba. Designed and built through the financial support of MPSG-Manitoba Pulse & Soybean Growers, Canadian Agricultural Partnership-Government of Manitoba, and the Government of Canada. The decision to treat a field is at the sole discretion of the producer. Assiniboine College assumes no liability for the suggested application decisions provided through this program.
But that's not all we're working on!
