Using an agent or representative

Applicants to Assiniboine Community College may choose to engage an agent to aid them in the application process. Applicants provide agent information in their official application.

Using an Agent or Representative

Thinking about studying at Assiniboine College? Whether or not you use an agent or representative to apply is your choice.

You are welcome to apply through an agent/representative, or apply to study here directly. Your application is treated in the same way. Assiniboine Community College does not give preference to students applying through an agent/representative. An agent/representative cannot guarantee you admission to Assiniboine Community College. Applying through an agent/representative will not “speed up” the admission process.

If you choose to use an agent/representative who is not listed on our list of approved agents, please read these suggestions from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Assiniboine Community College will never ask you to pay fees through an agent/representative. Our advice is you should not ask an agent/representative to pay Assiniboine on your behalf.

We will send all communication directly to you. If you receive a letter from an agent/representative, you should make sure that the same letter was sent directly to you from Assiniboine Community College.

With the exception of some cohort programs, Assiniboine will not request payment for books or supplies. Assiniboine does not have a residence or home stay, so will not request any payment for accommodation. Do not pay fees to an agent/representative for these types of services or supplies.

If you are concerned about the validity of any letter received from Assiniboine Community College, you may email a copy of the letter you are concerned about to international@assiniboine.net. Please include your student number, full name and the program you applied to.

Below is the process should an applicant wish to change their international agent representation or remove an agent.

1. Changing Agents During the Admissions Process (to the Same Program)

Applicants to ACC are not permitted to change the agent on an existing application. If an applicant chooses to have representation from a different agent, they must first cancel their original application and submit a new application with the new agent listed. ACC does not refund any application fees on cancelled applications. Any tuition deposits paid are non-refundable and non-transferable. Applicants who choose to cancel their original application will lose any progress made.

When submitting a new application, applicants are subject to current program availability and are required to resubmit all materials with the new application including:

  • All required admissions documentation
  • Updated program selection(s)
  • Payment of a new application fee

If an applicant has already submitted an application to ACC and has accepted an offer of admission by paying the Tuition Deposit, it is too late to change the agent. Agent changes are not permitted once a letter of acceptance has been issued to an applicant.

2. Applying to a Different Program or Intake with a Different Agent

Applicants are only allowed to have one active agent on file at any given time, regardless of how many program applications they have. If another application is submitted with a different agent listed, this will be treated by ACC as a change of agent and the requirements noted in the section above ‘Changing Agents During the Admissions Process’ apply.

3. Adding an Agent to an Existing Application Account (Agent Already on File)

Applicants are only allowed to have one agent at any given time, regardless of how many program applications they have. Adding a new agent to an applicant account where another agent already exists is not possible.

Please review the section on ‘Changing Agents During the Admissions Process’ for information on removing an existing agent and adding a new agent to an active application. If a new application is submitted with a different agent, this will be treated in the same way as an agent change request.

4. Adding an Agent to an Existing Application Account (No Agent Currently on File)

Applicants who have already applied to a program without an agent are not permitted to add an agent to their existing application account.

If an applicant wishes to use an agent’s services, they must submit a new application with their new agent listed. Applicants are subject to the current program availability and will be required to resubmit all materials with the new application including:

  • All required documentation
  • Updated program selection(s)
  • Payment of a new application fee

If a new application is submitted with an agent before the existing application(s) are cancelled, the new application will be cancelled. All application fees are non-refundable. Any tuition deposits paid are non-refundable and non-transferable.

5. Removing Agent Authorization

Applicants who would like to stop an agent from accessing their application information and communicating with ACC on their behalf, must complete the Agent Authorization Removal Form and email the completed form to international@assinboine.net.

This does not impact the admission process or enrolment with ACC. Admissions will not send further communications to the agent regarding the progress of the application.

If there are circumstances surrounding a need to remove an agent’s authorization that an applicant wants to discuss with ACC, they should contact Paige Jaenen, International Coordinator at jaenenp@assiniboine.net.

Removing an agent’s authorization will not allow a new agent to be added to the active application.
