Centre for Adult Learning Programs
Ready to take the next step?
Whether you want to finish your high school diploma, upgrade your high school marks, or take an additional course you need for college, university, or employment, the Centre for Adult Learning (CAL) is here to help you get started.
CAL offers learning opportunities in Brandon, Dauphin, Minnedosa, and Neepawa, with September and January intakes and a variety of in-person and online learning options.
Steps to Apply
1. Apply Online
Applications can be submitted online. You will select your location and your desired start date.
There is no application fee when applying to any Centre for Adult Learning program.
2. Provide your academic records
To help us understand your previous education and determine what courses you may need and are eligible for, you must provide your previous high school transcript or other academic records.
If you don't have a copy of your transcript or aren't sure how to get one, don't worry. We can help you determine what you need during the application process.
All transcripts and other supporting documents must be in English or have English translations attached. In all cases, the official transcript(s) should accompany your application. Official transcripts must arrive here in a sealed envelope or by email, sent directly from your high school or other post-secondary institutes attended.
Find out more about submitting a transcript or how to request a transcript from Assiniboine.
3. Proof of English Language Proficiency
English is the language of instruction at Assiniboine. All applicants educated outside of Canada or in a country not on the test exempt list are expected to meet the English language proficiency requirements.
4. Meet with a Centre for Adult Learning staff member
Once we receive your application, a CAL staff member will contact you to make sure we have all required documents and information for your application, and then we will schedule an intake meeting.
Together with our staff, you will review your previous education, talk about your goals, and develop a personalized education plan.
During the intake meeting, we will:
- understand the requirements for your high school diploma or upgrading goals;
- determine which courses you need;
- choose a learning option that works for you;
- finalize and approve your application to the program; and
- complete the registration process.
Intake meetings are a requirement for all application to CAL programs.
5. Complete any additional requirements
Depending on your educational history and the courses you want to take, we may need some additional information before your application can be completed, such as an Accuplacer Placement to confirm course eligibility in English and Math courses.
We'll let you know if anything else is required before or during your intake meeting. You don't need to figure this out on your own.
6. Register for your courses
Once your application has been approved by a CAL staff member, and we’ve received all required documentation and transcripts, we'll help you complete your course registration. Registration is sometimes done during the intake meeting, but can also happen any time after your intake meeting or before courses begin.
Now you're ready to get started!
